A Psalm for Asaph. How good is God to Israel, to the upright in heart!

Surely God is good to Israel,
to those who are pure in heart.

Surely God is good to Israel,
to those who are pure in heart.
2Ps 73:22ἐμοῦ δὲ παρὰ μικρὸν ἐσαλεύθησαν οἱ πόδες παρ’ ὀλίγον ἐξεχύθη τὰ διαβήματά μουPs 73:2
But my feet were almost overthrown; my goings very nearly slipped.
Ps 73:2
But as for me, my feet were almost gone.
My steps had nearly slipped.

Ps 73:2
But as for me, my feet were almost gone.
My steps had nearly slipped.
3Ps 73:33ὅτι ἐζήλωσα ἐπὶ τοῖς ἀνόμοις εἰρήνην ἁμαρτωλῶν θεωρῶνPs 73:3
For I was jealous of the transgressors, beholding the tranquility of sinners.

For I was envious of the arrogant,
when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
Ps 73:3Ps 73:3כִּֽי־קִ֭נֵּאתִי בַּֽהוֹלְלִ֑ים שְׁל֖וֹם רְשָׁעִ֣ים אֶרְאֶֽה׃Ps 73:3
For I was envious of the arrogant,
when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4Ps 73:44ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἀνάνευσις τῷ θανάτῳ αὐτῶν καὶ στερέωμα ἐν τῇ μάστιγι αὐτῶνPs 73:4
For there is no sign of reluctance in their death: and they have firmness under their affliction.
Ps 73:4
For there are no struggles in their death,
but their strength is firm.

For there are no struggles in their death,

5Ps 73:55ἐν κόποις ἀνθρώπων οὐκ εἰσὶν καὶ μετὰ ἀνθρώπων οὐ μαστιγωθήσονταιPs 73:5
They are not in the troubles of other men; and they shall not be scourged with other men.

They are free from burdens of men,
neither are they plagued like other men.

They are free from burdens of men,
neither are they plagued like other men.
6Ps 73:66διὰ τοῦτο ἐκράτησεν αὐτοὺς ἡ ὑπερηφανία περιεβάλοντο ἀδικίαν καὶ ἀσέβειαν αὐτῶνPs 73:6
Therefore pride has possessed them; they have clothed themselves with their injustice and ungodliness.

Therefore pride is like a chain around their neck.
Violence covers them like a garment.
Ps 73:6Ps 73:6לָ֭כֵן עֲנָקַ֣תְמוֹ גַאֲוָ֑ה יַעֲטָף־שִׁ֝֗ית חָמָ֥ס לָֽמוֹ׃Ps 73:6
Therefore pride is like a chain around their neck.

7Ps 73:77ἐξελεύσεται ὡς ἐκ στέατος ἡ ἀδικία αὐτῶν διήλθοσαν εἰς διάθεσιν καρδίαςPs 73:7
Their injustice shall go forth as out of fatness: they have fulfilled their intention.

Their eyes bulge with fat.
Their minds pass the limits of conceit.
Ps 73:7Ps 73:7יָ֭צָא מֵחֵ֣לֶב עֵינֵ֑מוֹ עָ֝בְר֗וּ מַשְׂכִּיּ֥וֹת לֵבָֽב׃Ps 73:7

8Ps 73:88διενοήθησαν καὶ ἐλάλησαν ἐν πονηρίᾳ ἀδικίαν εἰς τὸ ὕψος ἐλάλησανPs 73:8
They have taken counsel and spoken in wickedness: they have uttered unrighteousness loftily.
Ps 73:8
They scoff and speak with malice.
In arrogance, they threaten oppression.
Ps 73:8Ps 73:8יָמִ֤יקוּ ׀ וִידַבְּר֣וּ בְרָ֣ע עֹ֑שֶׁק מִמָּר֥וֹם יְדַבֵּֽרוּ׃Ps 73:8

They have set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue has gone through upon the earth.

They have set their mouth in the heavens.

They have set their mouth in the heavens.
Their tongue walks through the earth.
10Ps 73:1010διὰ τοῦτο ἐπιστρέψει ὁ λαός μου ἐνταῦθα καὶ ἡμέραι πλήρεις εὑρεθήσονται αὐτοῖςPs 73:10
Therefore shall my people return hither: and full days shall be found with them.

Therefore their people return to them,
and they drink up waters of abundance.

Ps 73:10
Therefore their people return to them,

And they said, How does God know? and is there knowledge in the Most High?

They say, “How does God know?
Is there knowledge in the Most High?”

They say, “How does God know?
Is there knowledge in the Most High?”
12Ps 73:1212ἰδοὺ οὗτοι ἁμαρτωλοὶ καὶ εὐθηνοῦνται εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα κατέσχον πλούτουPs 73:12
Behold, these are the sinners, and they that prosper always: they have possessed wealth.
Ps 73:12
Behold, these are the wicked.
Being always at ease, they increase in riches.

Behold, these are the wicked.
Being always at ease, they increase in riches.
13Ps 73:1313καὶ εἶπα ἄρα ματαίως ἐδικαίωσα τὴν καρδίαν μου καὶ ἐνιψάμην ἐν ἀθῴοις τὰς χεῖράς μουPs 73:13
And I said, Verily in vain have I justified my heart, and washed my hands in innocency.

Surely in vain I have cleansed my heart,
and washed my hands in innocence,
Ps 73:13Ps 73:13אַךְ־רִ֭יק זִכִּ֣יתִי לְבָבִ֑י וָאֶרְחַ֖ץ בְּנִקָּי֣וֹן כַּפָּֽי׃Ps 73:13
Surely in vain I have cleansed my heart,
and washed my hands in innocence,
14Ps 73:1414καὶ ἐγενόμην μεμαστιγωμένος ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν καὶ ὁ ἔλεγχός μου εἰς τὰς πρωίαςPs 73:14
For I was plagued all the day, and my reproof was every morning.
Ps 73:14
For all day long have I been plagued,
and punished every morning.
Ps 73:14Ps 73:14וָאֱהִ֣י נָ֭גוּעַ כָּל־הַיּ֑וֹם וְ֝תוֹכַחְתִּ֗י לַבְּקָרִֽים׃Ps 73:14
For all day long have I been plagued,
and punished every morning.
15Ps 73:1515εἰ ἔλεγον διηγήσομαι οὕτως ἰδοὺ τῇ γενεᾷ τῶν υἱῶν σου ἠσυνθέτηκαPs 73:15
If I said, I will speak thus; behold, I should have broken covenant with the generation of thy children.

If I had said, “I will speak thus;”
behold, I would have betrayed the generation of your children.
Ps 73:15Ps 73:15אִם־אָ֭מַרְתִּי אֲסַפְּרָ֥ה כְמ֑וֹ הִנֵּ֤ה ד֭וֹר בָּנֶ֣יךָ בָגָֽדְתִּי׃Ps 73:15
If I had said, “I will speak thus;”
behold, I would have betrayed the generation of your children.
16Ps 73:1616καὶ ὑπέλαβον τοῦ γνῶναι τοῦτο κόπος ἐστὶν ἐναντίον μουPs 73:16
And I undertook to understand this, but it is too hard for me,

When I tried to understand this,
it was too painful for me;
Ps 73:16Ps 73:16וָֽ֭אֲחַשְּׁבָה לָדַ֣עַת זֹ֑את עָמָ֖ל ‏{ היא ה֣וּא }‏ בְעֵינָֽי׃

When I tried to understand this,
it was too painful for me;
17Ps 73:1717ἕως εἰσέλθω εἰς τὸ ἁγιαστήριον τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ συνῶ εἰς τὰ ἔσχατα αὐτῶνPs 73:17
until I go into the sanctuary of God; and so understand the latter end.

Until I entered God’s sanctuary,
and considered their latter end.

18Ps 73:1818πλὴν διὰ τὰς δολιότητας ἔθου αὐτοῖς κατέβαλες αὐτοὺς ἐν τῷ ἐπαρθῆναιPs 73:18
Surely thou hast appointed judgments to them because of their crafty dealings: thou hast cast them down when they were lifted up.

Surely you set them in slippery places.
You throw them down to destruction.
Ps 73:18Ps 73:18אַ֣ךְ בַּ֭חֲלָקוֹת תָּשִׁ֣ית לָ֑מוֹ הִ֝פַּלְתָּ֗ם לְמַשּׁוּאֽוֹת׃Ps 73:18
Surely you set them in slippery places.
You throw them down to destruction.
19Ps 73:1919πῶς ἐγένοντο εἰς ἐρήμωσιν ἐξάπινα ἐξέλιπον ἀπώλοντο διὰ τὴν ἀνομίαν αὐτῶνPs 73:19
How have they become desolate! suddenly they have failed: they have perished because of their iniquity.

How they are suddenly destroyed!
They are completely swept away with terrors.How did they suddenly become a desolation? They were extinguished, they perished because of their lawlessness.

20Ps 73:2020ὡσεὶ ἐνύπνιον ἐξεγειρομένου κύριε ἐν τῇ πόλει σου τὴν εἰκόνα αὐτῶν ἐξουδενώσειςPs 73:20
As the dream of one awakening, O Lord, in thy city thou wilt despise their image.
Ps 73:20
As a dream when one wakes up,
so, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.Just like being woken up in a dream, O Lord you will set at naught their icon in your city.

You will guide me with your counsel,

that I may tell of all your works.However, to me it is good to be glued to God, to put in to The Lord my hope, to make known all your praises in the gates of the daughter of Zion
