Ps 49:1
For the end, a Psalm for the sons of Core. Hear these words, all ye nations, hearken, all ye that dwell upon the earth:

2Ps 49:12ἀκούσατε ταῦτα πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐνωτίσασθε πάντες οἱ κατοικοῦντες τὴν οἰκουμένην2
Ps 49:1
Hear this, all you peoples.
Listen, all you inhabitants of the world,
Ps 49:2Ps 49:2שִׁמְעוּ־זֹ֭את כָּל־הָֽעַמִּ֑ים הַ֝אֲזִ֗ינוּ כָּל־יֹ֥שְׁבֵי חָֽלֶד׃Ps 49:1
Hear this, all you peoples.
Listen, all you inhabitants of the world,
3Ps 49:23οἵ τε γηγενεῖς καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ πλούσιος καὶ πένηςPs 49:2
both the sons of mean men, and sons of great men; the rich and poor man together.

both low and high,
rich and poor together.
Ps 49:3Ps 49:3גַּם־בְּנֵ֣י אָ֭דָם גַּם־בְּנֵי־אִ֑ישׁ יַ֝֗חַד עָשִׁ֥יר וְאֶבְיֽוֹן׃Ps 49:2
both low and high,

4Ps 49:34τὸ στόμα μου λαλήσει σοφίαν καὶ ἡ μελέτη τῆς καρδίας μου σύνεσινPs 49:3
My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall bring forth understanding.
Ps 49:3
My mouth will speak words of wisdom.
My heart shall utter understanding.
Ps 49:4Ps 49:4פִּ֭י יְדַבֵּ֣ר חָכְמ֑וֹת וְהָג֖וּת לִבִּ֣י תְבוּנֽוֹת׃Ps 49:3
My mouth will speak words of wisdom.
My heart shall utter understanding.
5Ps 49:45κλινῶ εἰς παραβολὴν τὸ οὖς μου ἀνοίξω ἐν ψαλτηρίῳ τὸ πρόβλημά μουPs 49:4
I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my riddle on the harp.

Ps 49:5Ps 49:5אַטֶּ֣ה לְמָשָׁ֣ל אָזְנִ֑י אֶפְתַּ֥ח בְּ֝כִנּ֗וֹר חִידָתִֽי׃Ps 49:4
I will incline my ear to a proverb.

6Ps 49:56ἵνα τί φοβοῦμαι ἐν ἡμέρᾳ πονηρᾷ ἡ ἀνομία τῆς πτέρνης μου κυκλώσει μεPs 49:5
Wherefore should I fear in the evil day? the iniquity of my heel shall compass me.
Ps 49:5
Why should I fear in the days of evil,
when iniquity at my heels surrounds me?
Ps 49:6Ps 49:6לָ֣מָּה אִ֭ירָא בִּ֣ימֵי רָ֑ע עֲוֹ֖ן עֲקֵבַ֣י יְסוּבֵּֽנִי׃Ps 49:5
Why should I fear in the days of evil,
when iniquity at my heels surrounds me?
7Ps 49:67οἱ πεποιθότες ἐπὶ τῇ δυνάμει αὐτῶν καὶ ἐπὶ τῷ πλήθει τοῦ πλούτου αὐτῶν καυχώμενοιPs 49:6
They that trust in their strength, and boast themselves in the multitude of their wealth—
Ps 49:6
Those who trust in their wealth,
and boast in the multitude of their riches—
Ps 49:7Ps 49:7הַבֹּטְחִ֥ים עַל־חֵילָ֑ם וּבְרֹ֥ב עָ֝שְׁרָ֗ם יִתְהַלָּֽלוּ׃Ps 49:6
Those who trust in their wealth,
and boast in the multitude of their riches—
8Ps 49:78ἀδελφὸς οὐ λυτροῦται λυτρώσεται ἄνθρωπος οὐ δώσει τῷ θεῷ ἐξίλασμα αὐτοῦPs 49:7
A brother does not redeem, shall a man redeem? he shall not give to God a ransom for himself,
Ps 49:7
none of them can by any means redeem his brother,
nor give God a ransom for him.
Ps 49:8Ps 49:8אָ֗ח לֹא־פָדֹ֣ה יִפְדֶּ֣ה אִ֑ישׁ לֹא־יִתֵּ֖ן לֵאלֹהִ֣ים כָּפְרֽוֹ׃Ps 49:7
none of them can by any means redeem his brother,
nor give God a ransom for him.
9Ps 49:89καὶ τὴν τιμὴν τῆς λυτρώσεως τῆς ψυχῆς αὐτοῦPs 49:8
or the price of the redemption of his soul, though he labour for ever,
Ps 49:8
For the redemption of their life is costly,
no payment is ever enough,
Ps 49:9Ps 49:9וְ֭יֵקַר פִּדְי֥וֹן נַפְשָׁ֗ם וְחָדַ֥ל לְעוֹלָֽם׃Ps 49:8
For the redemption of their life is costly,
no payment is ever enough,
10Ps 49:910καὶ ἐκόπασεν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα καὶ ζήσεται εἰς τέλος ὅτι οὐκ ὄψεται καταφθοράν ὅταν ἴδῃ σοφοὺς ἀποθνῄσκονταςPs 49:9
and live to the end, so that he should not see corruption.
Ps 49:9
That he should live on forever,
that he should not see corruption.
Ps 49:10Ps 49:10וִֽיחִי־ע֥וֹד לָנֶ֑צַח לֹ֖א יִרְאֶ֣ה הַשָּֽׁחַת׃Ps 49:9
That he should live on forever,
that he should not see corruption.
11Ps 49:1011ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτὸ ἄφρων καὶ ἄνους ἀπολοῦνται καὶ καταλείψουσιν ἀλλοτρίοις τὸν πλοῦτον αὐτῶνPs 49:10
When he shall see wise men dying, the fool and the senseless one shall perish together; and they shall leave their wealth to strangers.
Ps 49:10
For he sees that wise men die;
likewise the fool and the senseless perish,
and leave their wealth to others.
Ps 49:11Ps 49:11כִּ֤י יִרְאֶ֨ה ׀ חֲכָ֘מִ֤ים יָמ֗וּתוּ יַ֤חַד כְּסִ֣יל וָבַ֣עַר יֹאבֵ֑דוּ וְעָזְב֖וּ לַאֲחֵרִ֣ים חֵילָֽם׃Ps 49:10
For he sees that wise men die;
likewise the fool and the senseless perish,
and leave their wealth to others.
12Ps 49:1112καὶ οἱ τάφοι αὐτῶν οἰκίαι αὐτῶν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα σκηνώματα αὐτῶν εἰς γενεὰν καὶ γενεάν ἐπεκαλέσαντο τὰ ὀνόματα αὐτῶν ἐπὶ τῶν γαιῶν αὐτῶνPs 49:11
And their sepulchres are their houses for ever, even their tabernacles to all generations: they have called their lands after their own names.
Ps 49:11
Their inward thought is that their houses will endure forever,
and their dwelling places to all generations.
They name their lands after themselves.
Ps 49:12Ps 49:12קִרְבָּ֤ם בָּתֵּ֨ימוֹ ׀ לְֽעוֹלָ֗ם מִ֭שְׁכְּנֹתָם לְדֹ֣ר וָדֹ֑ר קָֽרְא֥וּ בִ֝שְׁמוֹתָ֗ם עֲלֵ֣י אֲדָמֽוֹת׃Ps 49:11
Their inward thought is that their houses will endure forever,
and their dwelling places to all generations.

13Ps 49:1213καὶ ἄνθρωπος ἐν τιμῇ ὢν οὐ συνῆκεν παρασυνεβλήθη τοῖς κτήνεσιν τοῖς ἀνοήτοις καὶ ὡμοιώθη αὐτοῖςPs 49:12
And man being in honour, understands not: he is compared to the senseless cattle, and is like to them.
Ps 49:12
But man, despite his riches, doesn’t endure.
He is like the animals that perish.
Ps 49:13Ps 49:13וְאָדָ֣ם בִּ֭יקָר בַּל־יָלִ֑ין נִמְשַׁ֖ל כַּבְּהֵמ֣וֹת נִדְמֽוּ׃Ps 49:12
But man, despite his riches, doesn’t endure.
He is like the animals that perish.
14Ps 49:1314αὕτη ἡ ὁδὸς αὐτῶν σκάνδαλον αὐτοῖς καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτῶν εὐδοκήσουσιν διάψαλμαPs 49:13
This their way is an offence to them: yet afterwards men will commend their sayings. Pause.
Ps 49:13
This is the destiny of those who are foolish,
and of those who approve their sayings.

Ps 49:14Ps 49:14זֶ֣ה דַ֭רְכָּם כֵּ֣סֶל לָ֑מוֹ וְאַחֲרֵיהֶ֓ם ׀ בְּפִיהֶ֖ם יִרְצ֣וּ סֶֽלָה׃Ps 49:13
This is the destiny of those who are foolish,
and of those who approve their sayings.
Selah.
15Ps 49:1415ὡς πρόβατα ἐν ᾅδῃ ἔθεντο θάνατος ποιμαίνει αὐτούς καὶ κατακυριεύσουσιν αὐτῶν οἱ εὐθεῖς τὸ πρωί καὶ ἡ βοήθεια αὐτῶν παλαιωθήσεται ἐν τῷ ᾅδῃ ἐκ τῆς δόξης αὐτῶνPs 49:14
They have laid them as sheep in Hades; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, and their help shall fail in Hades from their glory.

They are appointed as a flock for Sheol.
Death shall be their shepherd.

Ps 49:15Ps 49:15כַּצֹּ֤אן ׀ לִֽשְׁא֣וֹל שַׁתּוּ֮ מָ֤וֶת יִ֫רְעֵ֥ם וַיִּרְדּ֘וּ בָ֤ם יְשָׁרִ֨ים ׀ לַבֹּ֗קֶר ‏{ וצירם וְ֭צוּרָם }‏ לְבַלּ֥וֹת שְׁא֗וֹל מִזְּבֻ֥ל לֽוֹ׃

Ketib: וצירם ⬪ Qere: וְ֭צוּרָם
Ps 49:14
They are appointed as a flock for Sheol.
Death shall be their shepherd.
The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning.
Their beauty shall decay in Sheol,
far from their mansion.
16Ps 49:1516πλὴν ὁ θεὸς λυτρώσεται τὴν ψυχήν μου ἐκ χειρὸς ᾅδου ὅταν λαμβάνῃ με διάψαλμαPs 49:15
But God shall deliver my soul from the power of Hades, when he shall receive me. Pause.
Ps 49:15
But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol,
for he will receive me.
Selah.
Ps 49:16Ps 49:16אַךְ־אֱלֹהִ֗ים יִפְדֶּ֣ה נַ֭פְשִׁי מִֽיַּד־שְׁא֑וֹל כִּ֖י יִקָּחֵ֣נִי סֶֽלָה׃Ps 49:15
But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol,
for he will receive me.
Selah.
17Ps 49:1617μὴ φοβοῦ ὅταν πλουτήσῃ ἄνθρωπος καὶ ὅταν πληθυνθῇ ἡ δόξα τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦPs 49:16
Fear not when a man is enriched, and when the glory of his house is increased.
Ps 49:16
Don’t be afraid when a man is made rich,
when the glory of his house is increased.
Ps 49:17Ps 49:17אַל־תִּ֭ירָא כִּֽי־יַעֲשִׁ֣ר אִ֑ישׁ כִּֽי־יִ֝רְבֶּה כְּב֣וֹד בֵּיתֽוֹ׃Ps 49:16
Don’t be afraid when a man is made rich,
when the glory of his house is increased.
18Ps 49:1718ὅτι οὐκ ἐν τῷ ἀποθνῄσκειν αὐτὸν λήμψεται τὰ πάντα οὐδὲ συγκαταβήσεται αὐτῷ ἡ δόξα αὐτοῦPs 49:17
For he shall take nothing when he dies; neither shall his glory descend with him.
Ps 49:17
For when he dies he shall carry nothing away.
His glory shall not descend after him.
Ps 49:18Ps 49:18כִּ֤י לֹ֣א בְ֭מוֹתוֹ יִקַּ֣ח הַכֹּ֑ל לֹא־יֵרֵ֖ד אַחֲרָ֣יו כְּבוֹדֽוֹ׃Ps 49:17
For when he dies he shall carry nothing away.
His glory shall not descend after him.
19Ps 49:1819ὅτι ἡ ψυχὴ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ ζωῇ αὐτοῦ εὐλογηθήσεται ἐξομολογήσεταί σοι ὅταν ἀγαθύνῃς αὐτῷPs 49:18
For his soul shall be blessed in his life: he shall give thanks to thee when thou dost well to him.
Ps 49:18
Though while he lived he blessed his soul—
and men praise you when you do well for yourself—
Ps 49:19Ps 49:19כִּֽי־נַ֭פְשׁוֹ בְּחַיָּ֣יו יְבָרֵ֑ךְ וְ֝יוֹדֻ֗ךָ כִּי־תֵיטִ֥יב לָֽךְ׃Ps 49:18
Though while he lived he blessed his soul—
and men praise you when you do well for yourself—
20Ps 49:1920εἰσελεύσεται ἕως γενεᾶς πατέρων αὐτοῦ ἕως αἰῶνος οὐκ ὄψεται φῶςPs 49:19
Yet he shall go in to the generation of his fathers; he shall never see light.
Ps 49:19
he shall go to the generation of his fathers.
They shall never see the light.
Ps 49:20Ps 49:20תָּ֭בוֹא עַד־דּ֣וֹר אֲבוֹתָ֑יו עַד־נֵ֝֗צַח לֹ֣א יִרְאוּ־אֽוֹר׃Ps 49:19

21Ps 49:2021ἄνθρωπος ἐν τιμῇ ὢν οὐ συνῆκεν παρασυνεβλήθη τοῖς κτήνεσιν τοῖς ἀνοήτοις καὶ ὡμοιώθη αὐτοῖςPs 49:20
Man that is in honour, understands not: he is compared to the senseless cattle, and is like them.
Ps 49:20
