¶Then Job answered,
2Jb 23:22καὶ δὴ οἶδα ὅτι ἐκ χειρός μου ἡ ἔλεγξίς ἐστιν καὶ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ βαρεῖα γέγονεν ἐπ’ ἐμῷ στεναγμῷJb 23:2
Yea, I know that pleading is out of my reach; and his hand has been made heavy upon my groaning.

“Even today my complaint is rebellious.
His hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.
Jb 23:2Jb 23:2גַּם־הַ֭יּוֹם מְרִ֣י שִׂחִ֑י יָ֝דִ֗י כָּבְדָ֥ה עַל־אַנְחָתִֽי׃Jb 23:2
“Even today my complaint is rebellious.

3Jb 23:33τίς δ’ ἄρα γνοίη ὅτι εὕροιμι αὐτὸν καὶ ἔλθοιμι εἰς τέλοςJb 23:3
Who would then know that I might find him, and come to an end of the matter?

Oh that I knew where I might find him!
That I might come even to his seat!
Jb 23:3Jb 23:3מִֽי־יִתֵּ֣ן יָ֭דַעְתִּי וְאֶמְצָאֵ֑הוּ אָ֝ב֗וֹא עַד־תְּכוּנָתֽוֹ׃Jb 23:3
Oh that I knew where I might find him!
That I might come even to his seat!
4Jb 23:44εἴποιμι δὲ ἐμαυτοῦ κρίμα τὸ δὲ στόμα μου ἐμπλήσαιμι ἐλέγχωνJb 23:4
And I would plead my own cause, and he would fill my mouth with arguments.

I would set my cause in order before him,
and fill my mouth with arguments.
Jb 23:4Jb 23:4אֶעֶרְכָ֣ה לְפָנָ֣יו מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּ֝פִ֗י אֲמַלֵּ֥א תוֹכָחֽוֹת׃Jb 23:4
I would set my cause in order before him,
and fill my mouth with arguments.
5Jb 23:55γνῴην δὲ ῥήματα ἅ μοι ἐρεῖ αἰσθοίμην δὲ τίνα μοι ἀπαγγελεῖJb 23:5
And I would know the remedies which he would speak to me, and I would perceive what he would tell me.

I would know the words which he would answer me,
and understand what he would tell me.
Jb 23:5Jb 23:5אֵ֭דְעָה מִלִּ֣ים יַעֲנֵ֑נִי וְ֝אָבִ֗ינָה מַה־יֹּ֥אמַר לִֽי׃Jb 23:5

6Jb 23:66καὶ εἰ ἐν πολλῇ ἰσχύι ἐπελεύσεταί μοι εἶτα ἐν ἀπειλῇ μοι οὐ χρήσεταιJb 23:6
Though he should come on me in his great strength, then he would not threaten me;

Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power?
No, but he would listen to me.

7Jb 23:77ἀλήθεια γὰρ καὶ ἔλεγχος παρ’ αὐτοῦ ἐξαγάγοι δὲ εἰς τέλος τὸ κρίμα μουJb 23:7
for truth and reproof are from him; and he would bring forth my judgment to an end.

There the upright might reason with him,
so I should be delivered forever from my judge.

There the upright might reason with him,

8Jb 23:88εἰς γὰρ πρῶτα πορεύσομαι καὶ οὐκέτι εἰμί τὰ δὲ ἐπ’ ἐσχάτοις τί οἶδαJb 23:8
For if I shall go first, and exist no longer, still what do I know concerning the latter end?

“If I go east, he is not there;
if west, I can’t find him;
Jb 23:8Jb 23:8הֵ֤ן קֶ֣דֶם אֶהֱלֹ֣ךְ וְאֵינֶ֑נּוּ וְ֝אָח֗וֹר וְֽלֹא־אָבִ֥ין לֽוֹ׃Jb 23:8
“If I go east, he is not there;

9Jb 23:99ἀριστερὰ ποιήσαντος αὐτοῦ καὶ οὐ κατέσχον περιβαλεῖ δεξιά καὶ οὐκ ὄψομαιJb 23:9
When he wrought on the left hand, then I observed it not: his right hand shall encompass me but I shall not see it.

He works to the north, but I can’t see him.
He turns south, but I can’t catch a glimpse of him.

He works to the north, but I can’t see him.

11Jb 23:1111ἐξελεύσομαι δὲ ἐν ἐντάλμασιν αὐτοῦ ὁδοὺς γὰρ αὐτοῦ ἐφύλαξα καὶ οὐ μὴ ἐκκλίνωJb 23:11
And I will go forth according to his commandments, for I have kept his ways; and I shall not turn aside from his commandments,

13Jb 23:1313εἰ δὲ καὶ αὐτὸς ἔκρινεν οὕτως τίς ἐστιν ὁ ἀντειπὼν αὐτῷ ὃ γὰρ αὐτὸς ἠθέλησεν καὶ ἐποίησενJb 23:13
And if too he has thus judged, who is he that has contradicted, for he has both willed a thing and done it.

15Jb 23:1515διὰ τοῦτο ἐπ’ αὐτῷ ἐσπούδακα νουθετούμενος δὲ ἐφρόντισα αὐτοῦJb 23:15
Therefore am I troubled at him; and when I was reproved, I thought of him. Therefore let me take good heed before him: I will consider, and be afraid of him.

Therefore I am terrified at his presence.

Therefore I am terrified at his presence.
When I consider, I am afraid of him.

16Jb 23:1616κύριος δὲ ἐμαλάκυνεν τὴν καρδίαν μου ὁ δὲ παντοκράτωρ ἐσπούδασέν μεJb 23:16
But the Lord has softened my heart, and the Almighty has troubled me.

For God has made my heart faint.
The Almighty has terrified me.

17Jb 23:1717οὐ γὰρ ᾔδειν ὅτι ἐπελεύσεταί μοι σκότος πρὸ προσώπου δέ μου ἐκάλυψεν γνόφοςJb 23:17
For I knew not that darkness would come upon me, and thick darkness has covered me before my face.
Jb 23:17
Because I was not cut off before the darkness,
neither did he cover the thick darkness from my face.
Jb 23:17Jb 23:17כִּֽי־לֹ֣א נִ֭צְמַתִּי מִפְּנֵי־חֹ֑שֶׁךְ וּ֝מִפָּנַ֗י כִּסָּה־אֹֽפֶל׃Jb 23:17
Because I was not cut off before the darkness,
neither did he cover the thick darkness from my face.
