19Wednesday, 26-Jul-2023 10:17:55 EDTElissa Grace [Send Message]Revision of 18By faith, Abel[a] offered to God a more (excellent) sacrifice than Cain, through which he had testimony given to him that he was was attested to be righteous, God testifying with respect to upon his gifts;[b] and through it he, being dead, he still speaks.[c]
———
a Gn. 4:3-8: 4:3 At the designated time Cain brought some of the fruit of the ground for an offering to the Lord. 4:4 But Abel brought some of the firstborn of his flock – even the fattest of them. And the Lord was pleased with Abel and his offering, 4:5 but with Cain and his offering he was not pleased.... 4:8 Cain said to his brother Abel, Let’s go out to the field. While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him (NET). **LXX**4:7 If you offer correctly but do not divide correctly, have you not sinned? Be still, the turning around of it is towards you and you will rule over it. the LXX uniquely reveals that Kain's sin was of not properly dividing the sacrifice.
b Gn. 4:4b LXX: καὶ ἐπεῖδεν ὁ θεὸς ἐπὶ Αβελ καὶ ἐπὶ τοῖς δώροις αὐτοῦ, and God looked upon Abel and upon his gifts [And the Lord was pleased with Abel and his offering (NET)].
c Gn. 4:10-11: And the Lord said, What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground. 11 And now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand (ESV). See also Heb. 12:24. (Is the more excellent sacrifice himself, being murdered? )
