a Judas of Galilee, a found of the Zealots, led a revolt against the Census of Quirinius c. 6 AD. The census was part of the reorganization of the tetrachy of Judea, Samaria, and Idumea into the Roman province Iudaea, administered by Roman governers (such as Pontius Pilate in 29 CE), after Augustus Caesar deposed Herod Archelaus for misrule. See notes Mt 2:22 and Lk. 3:1, 23:7.
