Whoever Confesses Me, Whoever Denies Me

8(Mk)Mt 10:32Everyone therefore who confesses me[a] before men, him I will also confess [b]before my Father who is in heaven.
———
a Gk. ὁμολογήσει ἐν ἐμοὶ. Ὁμολογέω is usually to agree or to admit that something is something (e.g., Jn 9:22: αὐτὸν ὁμολογήσῃ χριστόν, confess him [to be] Christ; Rom. 10:9: ὁμολογήσῃς...κύριον Ἰησοῦν, confess Jesus [to be] lord). Here, ὁμολογήσει ἐν ἐμοὶ would appear to mean, in the context of fear, to speak Jesus' message given in 10:27, without giving in to fear, and to not equivocate in the face of opposition.
b Gk. ὁμολογήσω κἀγὼ ἐν αὐτῷ.
Lk 12:8“I tell you, everyone who confesses me before men, him will the Son of Man also confess before the angels of God;

9(Mk)Mt 10:33But whoever denies should deny me[a] before men, him I, too, will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven.
———
a Gk. ἀρνήσηταί με. This is what Peter does in 26:34 (τρὶς ἀπαρνήσῃ με, three times you will deny me), 70, 72, and 74-75.
Lk 12:9but he who denies me in the presence of men will be denied in the presence of the angels of God.

a πηχυν is the Koine word translated "cubit" hundreds of times in the LXX and two of the four instances in the NT, referring specifically to the linear unit of measuring length used bu a builder or architect. Although it is rather clear The Lord is talking about extending the length of our lives, He specifically applies this unit of measure πηχυν, suggesting that WE are not the Builder/ Architect of our lives hence the literal translation is for transparency for the non-Greek reader to demonstrate what wordsThe Lord actually said here.

a Gk. εἰ for Hb. אִם ʾim, if, is a Hebraism expressing an emphatic 'no' (both here and in Heb 3:11). It is an elliptical negative oath, the full form of which is [Some curse upon me] if a sign will be given to this generation, meaning a sign will not be given to this generation. (See LSJ s.v. εἰ B.IX; Encylopedia of Hebrew Language and Linguistics, Volume 2, G-O, 6.5; and Encyclopedia Judaica: Oath.)
Mt 16:4An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and there will be no sign given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah.”
